  God's Commandments | The Sabbath

Saturday, the seventh day, is the true Sabbath. As we honor God by doing His will, loving Him and keeping His commandments, we must know the truth. We are accountable for seeking, knowing and practicing the truth. Sabbath has always been a special day to honor God throughout the earth's history. Moses kept the Sabbath, Joshua, David, Daniel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Apostles Peter, James, John, and Paul all honored God by honoring the Sabbath. Jesus ministered on the Sabbath day when He was with us on the earth. There is a rich tradition that is rooted in creation and in the Law of God about our responsibility for the Sabbath day. Lets learn more.

Why is the Sabbath important, I honor God everyday...?

The story of Creation, read Genesis 1 and 2

Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished.

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

Genesis 2:1-3
New King James Version

How do I know what is expected from God...?

4. "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maid servant, not your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Exodus 20:8-11
New King James Version

How do we know Saturday is the true Sabbath...?

So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews ask Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.

John 19:30-33
New King James Version

...Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had laid.

So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews' Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.

On the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

(Jesus is risen)

...Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them. "Peace be with you."

John 19:40-42,  20:1,  and 20:19
New King James Version

Lets learn what Matthew wrote

Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.

...But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified,

"He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Matthew 28:1-2, 5-6
New King James Version

Through many centuries the Roman Catholic Church and the Protestant churches have celebrated Easter Sunday - Resurrection Sunday. Although a day to be celebrated. It is the first day of the week. The true Sabbath that God asks us to Honor is Saturday, the seventh day of the week.

The story is old, I honor God by my life today, I worship on Sunday

And the Dragon (Satan) was enraged with the woman (the church), and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 12:17
New King James Version

In the last days of earth's history you are accountable for knowing the truth and acting on what you know. God and Satan both know the people who are the true keepers of God's Commandments. It is seemingly easier to conform to the world... to fit in... to be accepted by man... to meet friends at church on Sunday. But you are responsible for knowing the truth and acting on the truth. That's what God requires.

The Sabbath is one pinnacle of proof that you are loyal to the Commandments of God. Why? Because the world has so falsified it by elevating Sunday.
